About Luzardo

Most ranchers don't weigh their cattle. Scales cost thousands, take hours to run, and stress the animals out. Cattle can lose up to 5% of their body weight during a single weighing event. And if you can't weigh consistently, you can't track growth, optimize feed, or time your sales.

Luzardo started in 2024 at Carnegie Mellon University. The idea was simple: what if a phone camera could replace a scale? We built an AI that estimates cattle weight from a short video or three photos taken from different angles. You point your phone at a cow and get a weight. No chute, no handling, no disruption.

Our team covers computer vision, machine learning, ag tech, and go-to-market. We train our models on thousands of cattle images paired with verified scale weights, and we keep improving accuracy through our pilot program.

Right now we're running on 10 farms, collecting real data and building alongside the ranchers who use the product every day. If something doesn't work in the field, we hear about it and fix it.

Under the hood, our AI combines convolutional neural networks and transformer models to estimate an animal's volume and weight from images. We have two modes: phone-only (works offline, ~93% accurate) and phone plus a compact accessory we provide (above 95% accurate). Both run on any iPhone or Android.

The platform does more than weigh. Each animal gets a timeline that tracks every weigh-in and event from birth to sale. A digital cow passport records origin, weight history, and genetics in a verified record that travels with the animal to buyers and export markets. You can rank your herd by average daily gain, current weight, or breed, and the system tracks illnesses, vaccines, and treatments per animal.
